“The opening of school brings lots of promises: the company of friends, the joy of learning, the accomplishment of growth”, true indeed. Yet in the case of Iligan City, a vast destruction was brought by Typhoon Sendong wherein several of properties where shattered particularly 12 schools and 136 classrooms. That is why AIA is working hand in hand with FILA in organizing an advocacy run titled “Schools Run for School Rooms” (SRSR) that will take place on 7th of July at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
To date, there are 15,000 runners who already signed-up for this event. According to AIA the proceeds will be used to fund the rebuilding of classrooms in Iligan City. The advocacy run will gather student-runners from major colleges and universities in Metro Manila. To begin the race with, gun starts at 5am for the distances of 3K, 5K, and 10K on the town-setting of the Bonifacio Global City. What’s more, college students, groups from government agencies, churches, and private corporations have also expressed their interest of joining the SRSR.
Thus far, 13 universities and colleges have already committed to join in this advocacy run and still looking forward for more participants. This is the FIRST-EVER STUDENT-BASED fun run and this is for the benefit of our unfortunate fellow citizens in Iligan City who were massively devastated due to Typhoon Sendong. This event aims not only to run for a cause but also to promote the goodness of healthy living by means of running. AIA strongly believes in “making positive changes in people’s lives through sports”.
